Nearly a Century of Service

1935

After fleeing Europe in the early 1930s, dry goods merchants Samuel and Rosel Scheuer settle in San Francisco. They soon begin selling fine tablecloths, towels, and sheets door-to-door, catering to the bustling city’s well-to-do residents.

Samuel Scheuer opens its first retail store on Union Square (in what is now the Nike building), specializing in unique, handcrafted table linens and handkerchiefs. Samuel, his wife Rosel, their son Fred, and daughter-in-law Libby run the store, with their grandson, Mark Scheuer, who fondly recalls his childhood days spent hiding behind the cash register.

Our San Francisco store, formerly Samuel Scheuer Linens, now proudly displays its new Linen Society signage! As part of our ongoing transition, this update aligns our stores with our website, linensociety.com, while maintaining the same exceptional quality, service, and team you’ve trusted since 1935. It’s a fresh look, but we’re still the same family, offering the finest linens and expertise you love.
