Nearly a Century of Service

1935

After fleeing Europe in the early 1930s, dry goods merchants Samuel and Rosel Scheuer settle in San Francisco. They soon begin selling fine tablecloths, towels, and sheets door-to-door, catering to the bustling city’s well-to-do residents.

1952

Samuel Scheuer opens its first retail store on Union Square (in what is now the Nike building), specializing in unique, handcrafted table linens and handkerchiefs. Samuel, his wife Rosel, their son Fred, and daughter-in-law Libby run the store, with their grandson, Mark Scheuer, who fondly recalls his childhood days spent hiding behind the cash register.

1995

After an extensive retail career, including at the historic Meier & Frank department store, Tim O’Hearn opens French Quarter Linens, his first luxury linens store, in Northeast Portland, Oregon. By 1997, the store adds an additional location in the Pearl District, Portland’s hub for art and home décor.

2011

Tim O’Hearn acquires the iconic San Francisco luxury linen store, Samuel Scheuer Linens, from Mark Scheuer, grandson of the founders. Over his lifelong career, Mark transformed the store into a premier destination for luxury bedding and towels. Under O'Hearn's leadership, and with the expertise of its seasoned staff, the brand's commitment to exceptional home textiles reaches new heights.

2012

Inspired by the birth in Vietnam of his son, Henry, O’Hearn acquires a boutique importer of Vietnamese hand-embroidery, renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship. Rebranded as Henry Handwork, the company produces exclusive towels and table linens, now sold nationwide and featured in Linen Society stores.

2013

O’Hearn and his team reintroduce Grande Maison de Blanc in Beverly Hills, reviving a beloved luxury linens institution that had closed its doors in 1989. The store moved to West Hollywood in 2018, serving the area’s sophisticated clientele, including many celebrities.

2015

O’Hearn acquires Manor Fine Wares, a popular Portland boutique located on the bustling Northwest 23rd Avenue, further expanding his footprint in the home goods market.

2016

Linen Society is officially trademarked, becoming the umbrella brand and e-commerce platform for all of O’Hearn’s stores.

2019

O’Hearn and his creative team launch the LETTO brand in Linen Society stores. With a focus on investing in quality sleep, LETTO bedding is handcrafted in Italy by skilled artisans, blending modern design with traditional craftsmanship.

French Quarter Linens and Manor Fine Wares merge into a new Portland flagship location, bringing together both stores under one roof along with the company’s e-commerce, wholesale, and warehouse operations.
